About
Burnham Yacht  Harbour

The Yacht Harbour in Burnham-On-Crouch has been a major feature of this well-known sailing town since its construction in 1989. With all the services you would expect at a premier marina.

aN INITIAL IDEA

The original idea for Burnham-on-Crouch to have a dedicated marina was first thought of before the First World War.

At the time, Burnham’s wharf was busy with boats and barges being built by a number of companies. By this time, Burnham was already an established centre for sailing.

The move to the marina

In the 1980’s a company called Tucker Brown, owned by Mike Hemmingway, made the bold move to break ground on the long dreamt of marina on farm land at the West end of the town.

In 1989 the seawall was finally breached and work on the piles and pontoons could begin.

The RNLI relocates to BYH

In 1996 Burnham’s RNLI station moved from the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club to the marina with floating boathouses and dedicated HQ.

The RNLI contineus to operate a B Class and D Class lifeboat from Burnham Yacht Harbour and are an important part of our community.

The Swallowtail onsite bar and restaurant opens

In 1999 we were thrilled to open our own onsite bar, restaurant and function venue, The Swallowtail. We saw the need to provide close to berth hospitality and refreshments and The Swallowtail has gone from strength to strength ever since. The restaurant and bar are open 7 days a week and is popular with our residents, visitors and local customers from the town.

We continue to stick to our founding principles

When Burnham Yacht Harbour was first conceived, it was seen as a destination of choice for local yachtsmen and visiting mariners, offering a safe and secure place to moor whilst offering a full range of boatyard services.

We continue to provide this today and whilst we always look to improve and innovate our services and facilities, we always remain true to our roots as a living part of Burnham’s heritage.
